Not registered for GST?

Then don't use this template. Use the no-GST invoice template: the ATO says invoices from businesses that aren't registered for GST must not use the words “tax invoice”.

Questions

What makes an invoice a tax invoice?

It's issued by a GST-registered business, it's clearly intended to be a tax invoice (title it “Tax invoice”), and it shows the details the ATO lists: your identity and ABN, the date, what was sold with quantity and price, the GST, and which items are taxable. From $1,000 it also needs the buyer's identity or ABN.

Can I write “Total price includes GST” instead of showing the GST?

Only when the GST is exactly one eleventh of the total, which means every item on the invoice is taxable. If some items are GST-free, show the GST amount and mark which items are taxable.

When must I give a customer a tax invoice?

When they ask for one, within 28 days, unless the sale is $82.50 or less including GST.
